Volunteer Opportunities​

Giving the gift of time through volunteering offers The Whatcom Dream crucial support to keep our mission going. We have many ways for you to get involved. Need a volunteer form filled out for community service hours? NO PROBLEM, we’d love to work together. All volunteers will be required to fill out a volunteer services form, attend a volunteer orientation, and receive background screening and training.​​​​​​

Translation and Interpreting

Are you bilingual? We need you! We have clients who need our services in other languages. Interpreting sessions would typically last 1.5 hours based on the client’s needs. Translation services would offer our financial literacy curriculum and our program’s communications to be offered in other languages to better serve Whatcom community members. If you are interested in sharing your language skills with us, reach out.

Kid's Camp Counselor

 

We are looking for camp counselors for our first FREE Financial Literacy Summer Day Camp. Camp is being held in North Bellingham on August 24-28, 2026, 8:00AM- 4:00pm. Not able to commit to all 5 days, not a problem!! We’d love to have your help. Background screening and finger printing are a must.

Community Events

 

Do you enjoy fast-paced movement and engaging with your community? Then this is for you! We are looking for event set-up/tear down, or serve as an event host to engage the community with our mission. Training will be available.

Mailings and Communications

 

Help us with administration tasks like writing thank-you letters, addressing our quarterly mailers, or creating visual content for our social media presence.

Facilitate a Financial Literacy Pop-Up Event

 

Do you have a skill in the financial realm that you are interested in sharing with the community? Let’s partner together and create a pop-up event with your content and our clients.

Course Instructor

Are you a financial literacy expert? We are looking for course instructors to share our 8-week empowerment courses with the community. We need community members to facilitate our teen, adult, and senior classes. Training is required by attending an 8-week empowerment course.

Christmas Shoppe

Whatcom Dream hosts a Christmas toy store for our Whatcom Dream graduate families. We need businesses to host as a toy collection location in November. Collection boxes and media packages will be provided. Whatcom Dream will advertise your business location on Social Media accounts and other outlets.

Donations Needed

Drop-off items at The Whatcom Dream office at 1846 Iron Street, Bellingham from 10:00am to 4:00pm, Monday through Friday, OR arranged outside this timeframe. Please do not drop off items when the office is closed.

Whatcom Dream is committed to alleviating financial burdens and helping Whatcom Dream program graduates feel empowered with free access to formal attire, professional wear, hygiene items, and salon services. Megan’s Corner assists with our financial program graduates with gently used or new items that help them shine with dignity and confidence.

  • Professional Attire: New & Gently used business clothing for all gender types. Shirts, blouses,
    pants, skirts, new socks, shoes, blazer jackets, dresses, and accessories such as purses and jewelry.

  • Hygiene Items: Body cleansing, oral care, deodorants, hair products, skin care, feminine products, shaving products.

  • Formal Ware: Ball gowns, party dresses, prom frock, purses, dress shoes, suits, dress shirts, ties, slacks, shoes, jewelry, purses, new make-up, and hair style vouchers. New & Gently used items only please.

Silent Auction Baskets

We need gift certificates, new or gently used items, and new or gently used baskets for our annual gala. Do you have a service that you’d like to promote? We’d love to receive a voucher for your services that we can offer to our event guests. We offer tax receipts on the retail value of all donations.

Sponsorship Levels

Gifting financial empowerment to those who need it most! Any sponsorship donation amount is greatly appreciated. Here are some examples of our program costs:

 

  • $1600 sponsors an 8-week financial literacy empowerment course in Whatcom County.

  • $150 sponsors an individual to attend one of our financial empowerment courses in WhatcomCounty.

  • $30 covers the printing costs for one financial literacy material binder, which is offered to allcourse participants FREE of charge.

  • $350 sponsors a child to attend our financial literacy summer day camp for one week.

  • $70 sponsors a child to attend our financial literacy summer day camp for one day.

  • $50 will provide breakfast, lunch, and snacks for one child per week at camp.

  • $10 will provide breakfast, lunch, and snacks for one child per day at camp.
