At Whatcom Dream we provide deeper insights into poverty and poverty related problems in communities. Our events help raise awareness to the system complexities and real life difficulties people living on a low income must navigate just to survive month to month (Poverty Simulation Event).
We also have Understanding Poverty IQ Workshops based on the work of Dr. Ruby Paynes’ Bridges Out of Poverty curriculum that has helped provide insight and understanding to those who work in the US public school system for decades.
When we, as helpers, take the time to listen deeply with a posture of empathy, respect and compassion, good relational outcomes occur. By using a dignity preserving approach we see people become truly empowered!
